detective Robin Hollinsid who died in a road accident at the weekend.

Police yesterday renewed their appeal for witnesses to the crash in Middle Road, Devonshire, at 3 a.m. on Saturday, but said some witnesses had come forward.

Det. Cons Hollinsid, who was the father of a six-year-old son and lived at Cherry Dale Road, Knapton Hill, Smith's, had been in the force for 13 years.

He worked in the Narcotics Unit and was described as being immensely popular and dedicated to both his work and family.

His father Vincent Hollinsid, who is Bermuda's Deputy Fire Chief, said he was a son anyone would have been proud of.

A Police spokeswoman said yesterday: "The Police flag is flying at half mast as a mark of respect to Det. Cons Hollinsid.

"We are renewing our appeal for witnesses, particularly the two taxi drivers who were believed to be in the area at the time.

"We have had some response from the public, including the person who called 911, but we would appeal for more information.'' The 32-year-old officer was riding his private motorcycle at the time of his death.

He is believed to have been working a late shift on Friday night, but it was still unclear last night whether he had been working immediately before the accident and was on his way home, or whether he had been out with friends.

His bike collided with a car near to Christ Church. The male, 23-year-old driver of the car was interviewed at the scene and later arrested on suspicion of driving while impaired.

Yesterday, Police said he had been released on Police bail pending further enquiries.

Police are particularly interested to speak to two taxi drivers.

One was driving a white cab with a young man and woman as passengers, who were heading from Middle Road to the area of the Augustus Funeral Home in Pembroke, just after 3 a.m. on Saturday.

About an hour later, between 4 a.m. and 5 a.m., another taxi took two men from the area of the funeral home to Middle Road in Devonshire.
