Finance Minister the Hon. David Saul set aside $450,000 for the work in his 1994-95 capital budget. The total authorised figure is $550,000.
Police requested the money to renovate parts of the former Devonshire Academy so the buildings could be used for training, a Police spokesman said yesterday.
Another building at Prospect is now used for Police training, but it is "a little cramped,'' he said.
It is believed the renovations would allow Police to consolidate cadet training and other activities under one roof, he added.
It was hoped work would be underway this year, he said.
