Police who searched a drugs suspect found heroin hidden in a hollow ring on his finger, Magistrates' Court heard yesterday.
Ronald R. Wilson, of Cooks Hill Road, Somerset, admitted having the drug on July 4 and was fined $300.
Prosecutor Sgt. Rex Osborne said Police went to the corner of Broome Street and Cricket Lane, Sandys, and saw what appeared to be a transaction between 20-year-old Wilson and a man on a cycle, who drove off.
Wilson, a laid-off construction worker, was searched and in a hollow ring three pieces of silver foil were found. These contained a total of 0.03 grams of 60 percent pure heroin.
SLUGGISH RESPONSE CTS Sluggish response Drunk-driver David Purvis ended up the target of a judicial joke when he appeared in Magistrates' Court.
He admitted driving while impaired on Middle Road, Southampton on August 18, but added his car's "sluggish response'' had been due to a flat tyre.
"I think your response was a bit sluggish as well,'' senior magistrate the Wor. Will Francis told him.
Purvis, 50, of Dockyard Terrace, was fined $400 and taken off the road for a year.
STOLE CHEQUE CTS Stole cheque A man who stole his ex-girlfriend's unemployment cheque was fined $600 in Magistrates' Court yesterday.
Floyd Pitcher, 30, of Field View Lane, Pembroke, had been living with the woman, the court heard.
They split up and she moved out, but a $450 cheque from the parish council arrived at her old address. Her ex-boyfriend forged her signature on the back and cashed it.
Pitcher told Police he had been short of money. He admitted making a false document, uttering it and obtaining cash.
SCHOOL RAIDED CRM School raided Thieves broke into St. George's Secondary School but made off with only five dollars in coins after rummaging through the tuck shop and a school guidance counsellor's office.
Police went to the school on Monday morning following reports of the weekend break-in.
In a separate incident, thieves stole $75 in cash from a wallet after entering a property in Fiddlewoods Drive, Warwick, through an unfastened window.
A thief also stole $375 in cash from a home in St. Mary's Road, Warwick.
