Police's rapid response
crime and accident scenes, Police have decentralised the Traffic Department.
Effective on Monday, 21 Traffic Department officers will be transferred to one of three divisions, giving Divisional Commanders the ability to deploy the officers as needed.
A Police spokesperson said the public can expect to see an increased presence of the Traffic Enforcement Units, accompanied by increased traffic enforcement for die hard offenders.
Divisional commanders will now have the flexibility to manage resources and schedules to counter traffic problems.
"The move will allow each Divisional Commander to target traffic problems occurring in those areas under their responsibility, e.g. double parking in the City of Hamilton during peak hours,'' the spokesperson said.
In addition to providing a rapid response to accident and crime scenes, traffic enforcement officers can also investigate road traffic accidents.
