Minister of Delegated and Legislative Affairs the Hon. Sir John Sharpe announced the good news for travellers from Bermuda.

Sir John said: "Bermudians will remember that the Portuguese Government agreed some time ago to waive the visa requirements for Bermuda travellers to their territories.

"We were waiting for the appropriate notices to be formally published in Portugal before the new arrangements could come into effect.

"It has now been confirmed that these notices have been published, and that holders of Bermuda passports are now able to travel to Portugal as tourists for fewer than 90 days without the necessity of having to obtain a visa.'' He pointed out that the same was true for Portuguese nationals visiting Bermuda as tourists, which has been the case for some time.

It follows the recent agreement of Scandinavian countries to waive the visa requirements for Bermudians.

Sir John said: "It is a slow business, but with patience and perseverance, we are gradually achieving such concessions for the benefit of Bermuda travellers.''
