Portugueses festival set for May
King's Square.
The St. George's activities committee is hoping its Portuguese Festival will lure at least 2,000 people.
Mouthwatering Portuguese pastries, breads and other authentic dishes -- including plenty of chorico -- will be served at stalls. There will also be vegetable displays.
Meanwhile, the Portuguese community will put on a display of their national costumes and Portuguese bands and dancers will perform.
And international singing star Mr. Jorge Ferreira and his seven-piece band will be flying in for the weekend to play at the Festival. He is also set to perform on Saturday, May 2, at a dinner and dance at the Hamilton Princess.
"This is an event that is designed for the whole community, not just the Portuguese,'' activities committee spokesman Mr. E. Michael Jones said. "It is an opportunity for locals to come out and see the Portuguese culture.'' The Festival takes place from 1-5 p.m. and is sponsored by the Bank of Butterfield, Colonial Insurance, Lindo's Market, D and J Construction and Bermuda General Agency.
The last major activities committee event in St. George's was the annual New Year's Eve bash.
