Portugueses national is fined $100 for prowling car
Magistrates' Court for prowling.
Joe DeMello, 39, of Parson's Road, Pembroke, pleaded guilty to the charge through interpreter and local concert promoter Mr. Eddie DeMello.
The court heard that Police, responding to a prowling report, found DeMello standing outside of the window of a Pembroke residence around 2 a.m. on March 27.
The complainant, Helen Wakefield, said she was lying in her bed reading when she saw DeMello standing outside of her window and breathing heavy.
But DeMello told Police he was looking for a chef who lives in that area.
"He claims that he moved over to the window when he saw (Police) flashlights to avoid being seen by whoever was coming,'' Eddie DeMello told senior magistrate the Wor. Will Francis.
"He said he was not looking in the window and that he was only in that area for about 10 minutes.'' However, Insp. Peter Duffy, prosecuting, said it was strange that DeMello attempted to hide from Police and he made no inquiries at the house.
"I'll give him the benefit of every doubt as to his original intentions of going on the property,'' Mr. Francis said. "It seems he had been around the property about 10 minutes.''
