Possible assault connection

On Tuesday afternoon on Club Road, a 19-year-old man hit a 41-year-old Smith's man across the head with an unidentified object, causing the victim to be knocked unconscious.

The older man was treated at King Edward VII Memorial Hospital for serious lacerations to his head and cheek which required several stitches to close.

He also had serious bruising and swelling to both eyes and later underwent surgery for his injuries. Later that day, Police found the younger man lying injured on a pathway and being attended to by a member of the public.

Police had attended the South Road, Smith's scene after responding to a call.

The man told Police he had been beaten by a group of men with metal pipes and he was conveyed to hospital where a depressed skull fracture was diagnosed.

Both men have been detained in hospital.
