Malik Hayward, of Palmetto Road, was also fined $600 for possessing heroin, using offensive behaviour, and refusing to leave a licensed premises.

Prosecutor Insp. Peter Duffy said Police responded to a call from Southampton Rangers Club on February 21, 1994.

When they arrived, the president pointed out Hayward who had been involved in an altercation and refused to leave.

Insp. Duffy also told the court that Police stopped to speak with Hayward on another occasion as he sat outside Southampton Rangers Club.

Police searched him and found a brown package in one of his socks. The package contained a white powder which was shown to be 0.008 grams of heroin with a 64 percent purity.

Insp. Duffy said Police also went to the club on February 7 where they saw four men standing by a wall.

One of the men was heard saying "hide the dope man'','' Insp. Duffy told the court. Hayward dropped a small brown twist containing six smaller paper twists with six rock-like substances inside.

An analysis showed it to be 0.65 grams of crack cocaine.

NUISANCE CALLS PROVE COSTLY CTS Nuisance calls prove costly Making harassing phone calls to his estranged wife resulted in a 37-year-old Sandys Parish man being sentenced to 250 hours community service.

Rodrick Carlton Butler, of Gilbert Hill, admitted the offence.

Crown Counsel Ms Nita Grewal said Butler called his estranged wife eight times between 4.30 a.m. and 6.30 a.m. on April 10 but did not say anything.

Later on the same day, between 5.30 and 8.30 p.m., Butler made five more calls in which he attempted to start a conversation.

The sentence Butler received will run concurrently with a 220-hour community service he was ordered to serve on August 17 for assaulting his estranged wife's boyfriend, trespassing, and destroying furniture.

PITBULL MAULED FOX TERRIER CTS Pitbull mauled fox terrrier The owner of a red-nosed pitbull, which mauled a fox terrier, was ordered to pay $300.

Melvin Talbot, 41, of Bat `n' Ball Lane in Sandys, pleaded guilty to the charge.

Prosecutor Sgt. Kendrick James said the fox terrier named Penny, which belonged to Talbot's neighbour, was tied up outside on March 12 when the pitbull, Shasha, broke her chain and mauled her. The fox terrier was cut during the mauling and she ran away. She was found an hour later and taken to an animal hospital where she was treated for lacerations.

Talbot said his name was on the dog's licence as owner but he had "washed his hands'' of it years ago.

He said he did not have time for a dog and that it was still around only because his mother and nephew wanted to keep it.

Senior Magistrate the Wor. Will Francis told Talbot: "It could have been more serious. Instead of a dog it could have been a baby crawling around in that yard.'' IMPARIED DRIVER TAKEN OFF ROAD CTS Impaired driver taken off road A 35-year-old Sandys Parish man was taken off the road for a year and fined $400 for driving while impaired.

Prosecutor Sgt. Kendrick James told the court that Stephen Dill, of Heathcote Road, was involved in a single-vehicle accident on August 9.

When Police arrived at the scene they noticed that his breath smelled of alcohol and his speech was slurred.

A breath analysis showed that Dill had 88 milligrams of alcohol in 100 millilitres of blood. The legal limit is 80 milligrams.

Dill told the court that the accident was due to a faulty tyre and not the two beers he had consumed.

Dill said if he became drunk from having two beers, he would give up drinking.

Senior Magistrate the Wor. Will Francis advised Dill to do just that: "You may think you are in control but those who are sober can see that you are not.''
