Prisoner given drugs
she admitted having drugs at Co-ed Facility.
Senior Magistrate the Wor. Will Francis heard that Janet Smith was found with .61 grams of cannabis in her underwear at the prison at Ferry Reach.
Prosecutor Sgt. John Dale said Smith had two visitors on June 25 at the Co-ed Facility and was seen acting suspiciously with them.
Prison officials searched her at the end of the visit and found a pay-type envelope containing plant material in her underwear.
Smith told Police -- who suspected that the drugs were smuggled in by the visitors -- she brought the drugs into prison with her.
Given the choice of a $100 fine or 10 days imprisonment, Smith opted to spend ten more days in prison which will run concurrently to her present sentence.
Smith also received a 12-month conditional discharge yesterday for unlawful entry and common assault.
Sgt. Dale told the court Smith entered the residence of her former landlady Davena Mallory on July 6 after Mallory served her with a civil warrant for back rent.
