For the second straight year, Cable & Wireless is sponsoring the project, which uses satellites and video screens to allow local students to "accompany'' explorers onland and underwater.

This year's project, called Jason V, is under way at the Bermuda Biological Station for Research from February 28 to March 12.

Underwater explorer Dr. Robert Ballard is to lead a team of scientists on an exploration of the tropical rain forest, caves, and coral barrier reefs of Belize, as well as the Mayan city of Xunantunich.

Using a joystick and computer, some local students will be able to "fly'' the underwater vehicle Seaclops and operate a video camera perched high in the rain forest.

Saltus Grammar School student Roderick Ferguson was chosen to travel to Belize and take part in the exploration.

Now, families can also take part, Cable & Wireless said.

"Family hours'' would be held at the Bio-Station at 5 p.m. on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays during Jason V. On Saturday, March 12, there would be sessions at 11 a.m., 12.30 p.m., and 2 p.m.
