Alexandra was vandalised again -- just three weeks after being repainted.

Curator of Forts Lance Furbert last night branded the graffiti as "disgusting'' and called on people in the St. George's area to assist in catching the culprits.

He said: "We spent thousands of dollars just three weeks ago to get the fort cleaned up. I can't believe it has happened again.

"If I could catch the person responsible for this, I would like to hang him up by his thumbs. I think we are dealing with people who really don't have anything else to do with their time and are possibly not very bright to begin with.

"I would like to see the law deal with these people and I would like to see people become conscious of what is happening and call Police if they see anything.'' He even suggested the sale of spray paints be banned to youngsters under the age of 16 but said he appreciated that it was unfair to make all children suffer because a few use them badly.

Mr. Furbert noted that people over the age of 16 may well be to blame anyway.

He added: "These people have also damaged St. David's Battery and Whale Battery, but Alexandra is targeted more. In the past, they have even cut the locks off the gates, so now we leave the gates open to save further damage.'' CrimeStoppers co-ordinator Alex McDonald appealed for members of the public to call with information about graffiti artists.

"We are aware of the graffiti that is appearing around the Island and if we receive any information it will be acted upon,'' he said.
