Puppies taken from SPCA shelter
during Tuesday night two crossbred German shepherd puppies and a number of cans of dog food were stolen from the animal shelter.
Another break-in and theft under investigation occurred at a house on King Street in Hamilton during daylight on Tuesday. The occupant reported that someone entered his house by smashing a pane of glass and removing a panel from the front door. About $50 in coins was stolen.
LATEST TELCO DIRECTORIES OUT NJ Latest Telco directories out The first in a series of telephone directories highlighting Bermuda's cultural heritage is being distributed around the Island this week.
The 1992/93 telephone book cover, designed by the Bermuda Telephone Company Ltd. (Telco), features gombey dancers, "one of the most colourful and universally popular of our unique cultural traditions.'' The series will be featured over the next few years, a company spokesperson said.
"We're trying to depict a feeling of Bermuda culture and we think the gombey depicts that,'' she added. "We think tourists will enjoy looking at it.'' The spokesperson said a team had been working on the book throughout the past year. She said approximately 75,000 copies were printed, a slight increase over last year.
Changes in the directory include four new pages in the white section, new service codes, a pink section for the company's Insta-Mation services and four-page reduction in the yellow pages.
FUMIGATION AT MANGROVE BAY GVT Fumigation at Mangrove Bay The Mangrove Bay Post Office in Sandys will be closed tomorrow so the building can be fumigated.
Postmaster General Mr. Clevelyn Crichlow said there will, however, be one delivery of mail to residents in the parish tomorrow morning.
"Plans are in the works to set up a temporary booth in the Dockyard area on Friday, to facilitate the selling of stamps,'' he said. "However, residents with post boxes will not be able to access them until the following day, Saturday.'' The work will be completed by the Department of Works & Engineering.

FNR Fashion show with a difference ...
The Insatiable Fashion Extravaganza, put on by students at Bermuda College, is a fashion show with a difference, its organisers said yesterday.
The fashion show takes place this Saturday at 8 p.m. at the St. Paul Centennial Hall and tickets are $20. Part of the proceeds will go towards a charity yet to be named. The rest goes towards the college building fund.
Coordinator of the show Mr. Esan Frederick said some 45 students will be modelling clothes from a number of local stores.
But he said they will not simply be walking the catwalk: "They will be modelling with character and doing a lot of dramatic scenes,'' he said.
WINDOW-KICKER FINED $200 CTS Window-kicker fined $200 Kicking in the window of Roosters restaurant last Friday cost a 28-year Pembroke man $200 in Magistrates' Court yesterday.
Jay Thomas, who admitted wilfully damaging the window, told the court he was sorry.
He added that some customers inside the Court Street restaurant had been "getting on his nerves''.
Insp. Peter Duffy, prosecuting, said the night manager of Roosters was in the back of the restaurant when she heard a loud noise. She went to the front and saw Thomas kicking the window, causing it to crack.
She immediately called the Police, Insp Duffy said. When they arrived Thomas was still kicking in the window. He was arrested and taken to the Hamilton Police Station.
Magistrate the Wor. John Judge said Thomas had done a "stupid thing'' taking his anger out on the owner of the restaurant.
He fined him $200 and ordered him to see the owner about compensating him for the damage, estimated to costs $60.
