Government collection station is set to be finished by next week.

Work has been going on at the storage area at the Devon Springs Recycling Centre for three weeks.

The area has been expanded and concreted over to prevent recyclable materials like bottles and cans from becoming contaminated by sand and mud.

The opening of the storage area will end the storage of the blue recycling bags in the driveway of the centre.

A centre spokesman apologised to local residents for the accumulation of bags in the driveway.

But he said: "Once the new storage area is completed, it will take two days to move all the recyclables in. We are doing everything we can.'' Centre bosses also appealed to householders to rinse out bottles and cans before bagging them as Bermuda enters high summer.

The spokesman explained summer heat increases problems with unwashed bottles and cans, like smells, rodent problems and bees, which are attracted by sweet residue in soda containers.
