after a woman -- who stood to adjust her seat -- was thrown from a jeep.

The accident took place on Palmetto Road in Devonshire last Saturday.

The woman, who was a passenger in the rear seat of the convertible jeep, was thrown from the vehicle to the road, a Police spokesman said.

"She suffered injuries to her head, back, and ankle,'' he added, "Fortunately, these injuries were not serious and she was released after treatment at the King Edward VII Memorial Hospital.'' Police noted that the 1947 Road Traffic Act required that all persons must be seated on properly constructed seats.

Such seats, Police explained, were those designed and constructed by the vehicle's manufacturer, or designed and approved by a recognised manufacturer for attachment to the vehicle.

While also noting that those disregarding the Act were committing an offence, the spokesman said "the issue of greater importance is of public safety''.
