A 38-year-old man who admitted having sexual urges for a ten-year-old boy has begun serving a three-year prison term.

And the same paedophile had already been convicted of a similar offence six years ago -- but was reportedly never treated while in prison.

Crown counsel Caitlin Garland told Magistrate Edward King that Police arrested Calvin Leroy Simmons, of Wefo Road, Sandys Parish on May 26 shortly after a suspicious neighbour saw him on the St. George's Golf Course with a young boy in school uniform.

And the paedophile later gave full details of the incident, said Ms Garland.

Simmons confronted his victim around 3.30 p.m. as the student was walking near the number one golf green, explained Ms Garland.

He first asked the boy for the location of loquat trees and then took him by the hand and led the boy into a shaded, secluded area.

"Then I started getting these sexual urges to maybe touch him on his arm or leg,'' he reportedly told Police.

"I did have an erection at that time after I saw the boy and I started to think like that,'' he continued. "My mind went into a pattern. I wanted to sit down beside him and put my arm on his shoulder and then maybe rub my penis up against his leg and his tail.

"But I did not do any of these things.'' Simmons was eventually interrupted by a nearby female resident who could see the unlikely pair from her home.

And his claim to be looking for loquats aroused the woman's suspicions because the fruit was not in season, said Ms Garland.

Police eventually arrested Simmons as he was about to board a bus. He initially claimed he had travelled to the St. George's area to go swimming and did not know anything about the boy.

But he was later able to show Police exactly where the ten-year-old lived.

Yesterday, the court also heard that Simmons -- who worked as a self-employed landscaper -- had a history of coaching young children in sports.

Elizabeth Christopher, representing Simmons, also told the court Simmons had already had three months of therapy for his condition.

And she asked the Magistrate to postpone sentencing until a doctor's and social inquiry report could be presented.

However, Mr. King rejected the application.

"I take into consideration your guilty plea and all that counsel has said,'' he told Simmons. "But I cannot overlook the fact that in October, 1993 you were convicted of a similar offence.'' "The public must be protected from individuals such as you,'' he continued.

"You must be separated from the young and the innocent and all the others you are likely to exercise your sexual acts or feelings on.'' Mr. King also added a "strong recommendation'' that the man be "afforded all treatment deemed appropriate'' to deal with his sexual problem.
