Report ordered for attempted break-in man
to break into the Bermuda Historical Society's headquarters.
Police linked Michael Wade, of Bridle Hill, Smith's Parish, to the crime after they found his fingerprints at the scene.
Wade, 41, pleaded guilty to attempting to enter the headquarters, located in the Bermuda Library building, with the intent to steal.
Insp. Peter Duffy, prosecuting, said officers attended the Queen Street site shortly after 8 p.m. on March 27.
He said they found the shutters on the south side of the building's ground floor had the slats broken off and a pane of glass was broken.
The officers could tell that the would-be thief's attempt was foiled by stoppers which prevented the window from opening above a certain level.
When interviewed, Wade initially denied the incident which caused $175 in damage, but later admitted his guilt.
Insp. Duffy said Wade has a number of previous convictions over the years.
Duty counsel Mr. Justin Williams said Wade was working with a social worker at St. Brendan's and asked that a further psychiatric report be ordered.
Senior Magistrate the Wor. Will Francis released Wade on $500 bail.
