guilty in Magistrates' Court to receiving a radio stolen from St. Brendan's Hospital.

Cyril Tucker, of no fixed abode, admitted accepting the radio which was taken from the hospital's boiler room.

Prosecutor Sgt. Peter Giles told the court that a boiler room technician reported the theft of the Panasonic radio last Tuesday.

"The radio, which was marked with the man's initials, was valued at $350,'' Sgt Giles said.

He told the court that while Police were driving along Middle Road in Devonshire they spotted Tucker carrying the radio.

Tucker told the Police that it was his radio and they could not have it.

Sgt. Giles said Tucker had a long history of stealing from St. Brendan's and carried a suspended prison sentence for 12 months.

Former prison officer Mr. Rudy Laurence defended Tucker, saying: "This man knows no other place than St. Brendan's. If you look into his history you will see that he has been back and forth from St. Brendan's and prison.

"St. Brendan's is home to him. He knows nothing else. That's why he always returns there.'' Senior Magistrate the Wor. Will Francis said: "He seems to be a menace to everyone at St. Brendan's. There are people that just fall between the cracks.'' Mr. Francis remanded Tucker in custody until the social inquiry report is presented next Tuesday.
