And Parliamentary Registrar Mrs. Marlene Christopher yesterday warned that canvassers would be knocking on those doors if a second batch of registration forms, recently sent out, were not returned.

She said it was crucial for households to return the forms, regardless of whether the occupants were eligible to vote.

The Constituency Boundaries Commission will be meeting at the end of the registration period to examine the Parliamentary Register and to determine whether any of the constituency boundaries need to be changed.

Mrs. Christopher said if the second batch of registration forms were not returned by next week, interviewers from the Statistics Department would go out to register people in their homes.

"We are hoping that during the next week, a significant number of forms will be returned,'' she said. "That will cut down the number of interviewers who will go out and greatly reduce the time they will have to spend going from door to door.'' There are 26,537 households in Bermuda with an estimated 35,000 eligible voters.

"As people move from one parish to another, the numbers in constituencies change,'' Mrs. Christopher said. "The law stipulates that we have to look at the distribution of voters within the parish at least every seven years, so we must have complete registration to provide the Boundaries Commission with accurate figures to look at.'' Following the last review of the register by the Boundaries Commission in 1987, the boundaries were changed in the parishes of Hamilton, Devonshire, Paget and Southampton.

This meant placing some people in a constituency where they had not voted before, Mrs. Christopher added.

"For instance, the change in Hamilton Parish meant that some persons who voted in Hamilton West in a previous election, became voters in Hamilton East for the next.'' Mrs. Christopher noted that those affected by changes to constituency boundaries were notified.
