Last Wednesday, 2,200 Bermuda Government cheques were lost between Serpentine Road, in Pembroke, and the Government Administration Building, in Hamilton.

News of the loss was released by the Police although they said they did not suspect any criminal matter.

Yesterday, Finance Minister the Hon. David Saul said the printers of the cheques apparently dropped them on the way to delivering them to the Accountant General.

Dr Saul said they could not be used, adding: "They will have been cancelled.

However I am sure they will turn up.'' The cheques were drawn on the Bank of Butterfield account 2001-502211 and had serial numbers from 38501 to 40700. They were light green with a dark green border.
