Senator has demanded.

Sen. Alex Scott , PLP leader in the Senate, made his call after seeing the Hon. John Stubbs MP carried up to the House of Assembly in a wheelchair.

Sen. Scott said he worried about what would have happened in a fire or other mishap.

Maybe the work could be done as a tribute to campaigner for disabled people Ms Margaret Carter, he said.

Sen. Scott and Sen. Norma Astwood (Ind) were both concerned about rising medical costs.

Referring to a 4.9 percent rise in hospital fees, Sen. Scott said Government should give a thought to easing the burden on those suffering in the recession.

Sen. Astwood said it was time for the hospitals to consider getting medicines more cheaply, perhaps from countries where research costs were not added to the price.

"It seems folly to put our own people at the mercy of the ever-rising costs of research.

"If we're not careful we're going to price our health care well beyond the earning power of those who maybe most in need of it.'' Senators approved the following: Hospital Insurance (Standard Premium) Regulations 1993, Hospital Insurance (Deductions) Amendment Regulations 1993, Hospital Insurance (Standard Hospital Benefit) Amendment Regulations 1993, Bermuda Hospital Board (Hospital Fees) Amendment Regulations 1993 and the Public Service Superannuation Amendment Act 1993.
