Search launched for ship

100 miles southwest of Bermuda after the freighter Bona Foam received a distress call around 1.55 p.m.

Harbour Radio told The Royal Gazette the freighter reported hearing the words "mayday'' twice crackle through its radio. Nothing has been heard since.

The US Coast Guard launched a plane from its airbase in Elizabeth City, Virginia, and searched the area until dusk. The C-130 was expected to land in Bermuda overnight and resume the search at first light.
