And contrary to broadcast reports, the Bermuda AIDS day quilt was on display on Tuesday evening at the Candlelight Vigil and Ecumenical Service at the Anglican cathedral.

Church organist Ruth Henderson found it shortly before the service began after hearing the quilt could not be found.

AVSF director Michael Fox set about putting the quilt up minutes before Premier Jennifer Smith arrived.

The foundation encourages anyone to add a square in memory of a loved one and anyone interested in displaying portions of the quilt in schools or businesses should contact the foundation.

Volunteers gave their time to distribute Red Ribbons throughout Hamilton. The ribbons are symbols of the hope for an AIDS cure.

MORE THEFTS IN SANDSYS CRM More thefts in Sandys Police are investigating a string of thefts from homes in the Crossfield Lane, Sandys area.

A spokeswoman said intruders entered through a kitchen door or bathroom window in each of five break-ins reported on Tuesday.

And five other homes in the same area were targeted on Monday by a brazen thief or thieves.

On two occasions, homes were robbed as residents were inside. In another incident, a female occupant unsuccessfully confronted a purse snatcher before he made his escape.

AWARDS CEREMONY SET AWD Awards ceremony set The Governor will present more than 40 bronze and silver Duke of Edinburgh awards on Monday to young people from a variety of schools and organisations.

Each participant must complete many hours of volunteer work, skills participation, physical activity and adventure training.

CONCERT PLANNED ENT Concert planned The Pilot Club of Bermuda will hold its annual Light a Light For Charity Christmas Concert at the Holy Trinity Cathedral in Hamilton on December 6 at 7 p.m.

Organist Ruth Henderson, the CedarBridge Choir under the direction of John Woolridge, violinist Gillian Henderson, the Pilotones, actor Gavin Wilson, soloists Cynthia Thomas and Harry Bean and the Bethel Family Choir will perform.

Tickets are $12 for adults and $6 for children. They can be purchased from Pilot Club members or at the door.

This year's proceeds will be donated to P.A.L.S., Meals on Wheels, the Reading Clinic, Wind Reach Recreational Village, and the Bermuda Stroke and Family Support Association.

POST OFFICE TO OPEN GVT Post offices to open Most post offices will open on Saturdays later this month to handle Christmas mail.

The General Post Office in Hamilton and all sub-Post Offices except Perot Post Office and Bailey's Bay Post Office will be open to the public on December 12 and 19 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Island-wide deliveries will also be made to homes on these two days and the public is asked to keep their dogs and geese under control.
