Senate shuffle seen

when he returns to the Island this weekend as Sen. Cindy Trimm may step down from the upper house after just one year's service.

Sen. Trimm, a former school guidance counsellor and church preacher, is considering stepping down for personal reasons, sources said. Although Sen.

Trimm could not be reached for comment yesterday, it is understood her reasons for resignation involve church issues.

Any announcement by the Premier is not expected until after he returns to the Island, possibly this weekend. Sir John has been at Camp Lejeune, North Carolina, visiting the Bermuda Regiment and at a major insurance conference in Los Angeles.

Sir John is expected to try to dissuade Sen. Trimm, who is also a UBP election candidate in Pembroke East Central, from resigning. He is already seeking a replacement for Mr. Charles Collis, who resigned as Government Senate Leader last month.

United Bermuda Party executive officer Mr. Joe Gibbons said he could not comment except to confirm that Sen. Trimm had not resigned from the Senate at this point.

Among the candidates who have been mentioned to succeed Sen. Collis are Devonshire South adopted candidate Mr. John Barritt, Hamilton East candidate ibbons.
