She said physically challenged people and seniors including visitors were unable to use the library's upstairs facilities.

She added that the US Base's "21st century'' library would be ideal for East End residents.

Leader of the Senate the Hon. Gerald Simons (UBP) replied that Government funds were already stretched with the recent takeover of the airport. But, he said, the Community Minister was looking at a number of different solutions to the problem.

He added that repairs to the US Base library would create additional expense but that a final decision would be made after September.

Sen. Milton Scott (PLP) congratulated the six graduates of a school programme for pregnant teenaged girls at Teen Services. He said the young women who spoke about their experiences left "not a dry eye'' in the room.

Most of the graduates, he added, would be going on to further their studies at Bermuda College.

Youth Talk and its focus on drugs was the object of praise by Sen. Yvette Swan (UBP) yesterday. She said the frank confessions by young people who spoke about their addiction and recovery was touching.

"It was a very well done programme,'' she said.

Sen. Lawrence Scott (UBP) offered his condolences to the family of the late Mrs. Joyce Williams of Scaur Hill, Sandys.
