Top Square, St. George's, to be used for housing development.

Government Sen. the Hon. Maxwell Burgess , who presented the proposal, explained that .479 acres of the land near the St. George's Health Clinic, will go to the Bermuda Housing Corporation as a part of the housing scheme.

He said .0017 acres will make it possible for Government to have septic tanks on part of the property and will also allow access to the adjoining properties.

Opposition Senate Leader Sen. Alex Scott said while the Progressive Labour Party continues to encourage and support any programme that leads to home ownership by Bermudians, it seeks an indication as to what the market value will be for the finished units.

Mr. Scott noted that one of the reasons for the formation of the Bermuda Housing Corporation was to make homes available to Bermudians of limited income.

Sen. Burgess said there is a reasonable amount of parking around Top Square area and RAA club.

"Yes, it may require a few steps,'' he said, "but I do not expect this to cause any hardships.'' Sen. Burgess said Government, with the Housing Corporation, do not foresee any problems concerning the septic tanks. He added that the corporation would be involved in the setting of prices for the units and selling them.
