Despite the fact that 38-year-old Junior Harold Glasgow has, more than likely, served more time than he could be sentenced for the offence, he will have to remain in custody until his trial on March 24.

Glasgow, of Long Range Hill, Devonshire, was given the opportunity to plead guilty and have the offence dealt with by Mr. Francis in Magistrates' Court yesterday.

But he refused, saying that having the offence on his record would injure his reputation.

Glasgow is accused by Police of drinking a bottle of liquor in Long Range Hill, on Thursday, March 4.

But he denies the charge, stating he simply picked up a bottle in the road to see if it was empty. Glasgow also denies that the incident took place in Long Range Hill.

Last week, he was remanded in custody until April by the Wor. John Judge, because he could not provide a surety to sign his bail.

Mr. Francis said: "I realise that we do not like people drinking in a public place but, even if this man was found guilty, he has served enough time for that offence already.'' He asked Glasgow to consider a plea of guilty because the charge was not serious and he could be dealt with immediately.

But Glasgow said: "I do not want to injure my reputation. I am not an alcoholic. The fact is that I did not do this.'' Mr. Francis said: "He is adamant that he did not do it and despite the time he has spent in custody he does not want to change his plea to guilty. The only thing I can do is to set this down for a trial as early as possible.'' Glasgow was taken back into Police custody until his trial in 15 days time.
