Serco subcontractor on job in West End
the grass at Daniel's Head.
And the move has resulted in savings of more than $2,000. Previously the Ministry of Works and Engineering Parks and Housing were responsible for maintaining the former military site at a cost of around $5,500.
However on April 1, 1996 the LDTO took on the responsibility for Daniel's Head and in late July, Serco's subcontractor, West End Landscaping of Somerset, was instructed to maintain the grounds.
As a result a spokesman said the LDTO has saved around $2,000.
He said: "Serco's involvement at Daniel's Head, through its West End subcontractor, is limited to groundskeeping. This arrangement will continue through to March, 1997.
"It requires West End Landscaping to cut the grass about once a month. Parks workers will continue to maintain the grounds of the Daniel's Head Beach National Park.'' Serco is the Canadian company that Government brought in to operate the former US Navy base in St. George's.
