Contractor Mr. Gilbert Lopes has been given the green light for a two level commercial building by the Development Applications Board.

At present Mr. Lopes will only reveal that he has a number of people interested in the building, which is to be on South Road, just east of the Cottage Bakery.

But he said: "I am expecting it to be used partly for retail and partly for offices, although I cannot say what will be sold there. It is too early.'' Mr. Lopes still needs to get approval for a building permit. He has plans for 27 parking spaces and the entire site will be landscaped. It will also have a traditional style Bermuda roof.

Many of the trees on the site are to be protected during the building operations.

The board also granted permission for Mr. Leopold Kuchler to build four new tourist units and a swimming pool and change two residential units to tourist accommodation.

Mr. Kuchler also said it was too early to speak about his plans for the development in Cedar Hill, Warwick.

The board stated that the site should be landscaped and said: "Any trees or shrubs which are removed, which die or which become seriously diseased or damaged shall be replaced by trees or shrubs of a similar size and species to those originally required to be planted.''
