Express , a German registered container ship, was taken to King Edward VII Memorial Hospital yesterday morning.

Early Tuesday morning, the container ship had been diverted to Bermuda.

The 48-year-old woman was transported off the container ship at 8.15 a.m.

yesterday at Five Fathom Hole then taken to hospital by ambulance.

Her name was not released and details of her condition were not available.

When Bermuda Harbour Radio received word that the 32,000-ton vessel, en route to Bilbao, Spain, from Kingston, Jamaica, had been rerouted to Bermuda, it was about 275 east southeast of the Island.

The US Coast Guard had advised the vessel divert to Bermuda to land the patient while a para-rescue team was dispatched from a US Air Force Base in Patrick, Florida, to meet the vessel at sea.

Three paramedics were flown out to the ship where they were dropped into the ocean, collected by a small boat, then taken aboard the Humboltd Express around 8 p.m. on Tuesday.

The aircraft subsequently landed in Bermuda and a flight doctor monitored the situation from Harbour Radio's operations room from about 11 p.m. through the night.
