Donovan Boyles yesterday after the well-known football player pleaded guilty in Magistrates' Court to importing cannabis earlier this year.

Police prosecutor Sgt. Donald Grant told the court that Boyles, 32, was stopped by Customs officials on January 3 as he returned to Bermuda from a trip to Jamaica.

Boyles' baggage was searched and a Customs officer noticed little pieces of cannabis spread throughout his bag, Sgt. Grant said, adding that Police later discovered four compressed bundles of plant material concealed in Boyles' dreadlocks after the player was searched more thoroughly.

"It's hair,'' Boyles reportedly said when he was asked what the bundles were.

The plant material was later found to have been 68.9 grams of cannabis, Sgt.

Grant said. It had an estimated street value of $3,450.

Boyles' attorney, Ms Patricia Harvey, requested a social inquiry report for her client and reminded Magistrate the Wor. Cheryl-Ann Mapp that the cannabis was intended for personal use. Boyles was then remanded into custody until September 6.
