objecting to the planned development of Ship's Hill.

Save Our Spaces (SOS) chairman Mr. Ian MacDonald Smith asked Environment Minister the Hon. Pamela Gordon and Shadow Environment Minister Mr. Leon (Jimmy) Williams to give the matter serious consideration.

Ms Gordon thanked the group for their concern and said she realised that Government had to look at the overall picture when it came to the development of the area. She said she felt the papers would help Government understand the situation better.

Mr. Williams said he agreed with Ms Gordon's view that the matter had to be discussed. He added that what made the matter so important to him was the severe implications it could have on Bermuda's future generations.

Mr. MacDonald Smith said the papers laid out an overall view of the group's concerns which included the area's sensitive cave system, its endemic plant life and the problem of over developing Bermuda's remaining land mass.

This was particularly true in this area, he added, because the planned development was not necessary.

Ms Gordon said she would be sitting down with the SOS group next Wednesday when she would hear their concerns.

SOS secretary Mrs. Diana Antonition said the group was bringing in two environmentalists this month to assess the entire area where development is planned. Mr. Phil Smith from the UK would be concentrating on the area's flora and fauna and Texan Mr. Tim Iliffe would be looking at the cave system.
