Local Joe Wakefield won the prestigious Masters pairs alongside Canada's Dick Hart while Randy Vaucrosson and Tony Cabral comfortably took the non-masters Flight A with Magda Farag and Felicity Lines doing likewise in Flight B.

Wakefield's success was no surprise as he has long been a force in local bridge, having represented the Island in international events on several occasions.

Meanwhile, Hart has also enjoyed sizeable success while the remaining four are regarded as up-and-comers.

In fact all events thus far have been won by Bermudians and they get a chance for more glory today with the second round of the Knockout Teams, Trimingham Pairs and Stratified Pairs taking place.

Debbie Roberts and David Cordon won the Charity Pairs with a storming 67 percent game as they finished just a quarter point ahead of Bill Hunter and R.Cloutier of the United States with Canada's Dick Hart and Ram Hira third.

Roberts and Cordon, who have been playing intermittently together for four years recorded their biggest triumph to date with the win against a very strong field.

Meanwhile, other locals placing highly in the field of 180 pairs were Lynn O'Neil and Audrey Smith, who were sixth, while Ernie Owen and John Burville were a further two spots back.

Local charities will benefit to a tune of approximately $2,500 from this event with the proceeds being distributed among four organisations to be announced.

SNOOKER SNO Old Colony Club I increased their lead atop the Bermuda Snooker Association First Division to two points with a 5-0 thrashing of Second Division outfit Spanish Point.

Once again Dave McLean lead the Colony attack, posting a 23-break while Terry Southern, Phil Lambert, Brian Haxton and Dennis Coyle also added wins.

Second-placed Nationals also won, but still lost ground as they beat Old Colony Club II 4-1.

Henry Kaye was the one preventing the shut-out for Colony as he shocked Stephen Pantry 45-33 in their match and was thus named Second Division Player of the Week. Garnering similar honours in the First Division was Tony DeSilva for his role in Nationals' victory, which included breaks of 43 and 20 in beating Stan Fearis 68-9.

Meanwhile, Queens II produced a major upset when they upended Sandys Sports Club 4-1 behind fine performances by Glenn Flood, Cory Powell, Ed Gumbs and Chris Dakin.

In other matches Queens romped over Old Colony Club III 5-0, Warwick I eased past St. George's 4-1 and Police nudged Warwick II 3-2.

DARTS DRT Recent action in the Ladies Darts League saw RAA remain in top spot after their 5-2 victory over Mariners with second-placed BAA, with a game in hand, two points behind following their 6-1 smashing of Hamilton Parish.

BAA won the 1001 where they top the standings while RAA also won the 1001 in their win over Mariners.

Police East pulled off a close 4-3 win over BPSA while East End Mini Yacht Club won by the same margin over St. George's Dinghy and Sports Club II after coming from behind following losses in the doubles. In the other match, St.

George's I beat Spanish Point Boat Club 5-2.

VOLLEYBALL VOL Last week saw compelling action in both the men's and women's volleyball leagues.

In men's play Grey & Kempe pulled off a shocker as they beat top side Arthur Andersen 15-3, 16-14.

Meanwhile, among the women, Butterfield Travel and Busycomm each handed Bluebirds two game defeats before hooking up with each other in the night cap.

And what a `barn burner' it was. The opening game saw Butterfield dominate in a 15-11 victory only to have Busycomm respond in the following game, taking a 15-9 decision and gaining a share of the spoils.

TABLE TENNIS PP There will be a league meeting tomorrow at The Centre commencing at 7 p.m.

This date will also represent the deadline for entries to the Bermuda National Championships, which will take place on Saturday at Elliott School gym starting at noon.

There will be a meeting for all those interested in playing cricket for Somerset during the upcoming season tomorrow at the club commencing at 7 p.m.

ATHLETICS ATH There will be a meeting at the Department of Youth, Sport and Recreation on Friday (5.30 p.m.) for all youngsters, and their parents, who wish to represent Bermuda at the CARIFTA Games in Martinique from April 10-12.

CHESS CHS The Princess League resumed last Tuesday with defending champions Bishops beating Independents 4-3 and Kingfishers winning over Islanders by the same margin.

Bishops' victory was owed greatly to three wins by default. A default was also the decider in the Kingfishers win after the team and split the series at three apiece.
