Jones died of massive head injuries after he smashed into a wall on his motorcycle near the Collector' Hill gas station on March 2 last year.

Coroner the Wor. Edward King said that despite the fact that Jones was a patient at St. Brendan's Hospital undergoing treatment for depression, he was there on a voluntary basis allowing him the freedom to come and go as long as he informed the hospital staff.

However, "Mr. Jones, who had ridden his motorbike onto the hospital grounds, apparently slipped past the nursing station due to the nurse either not being there or her back was turned,'' Mr. King said.

He added: "He went through the exit got on his bike and rode down to South Shore in Devonshire and met his untimely death near the Collector's Hill Esso station. His head injuries were massive and the helmet which lay on the ground near his cycle bared "no signs of the impact that caused the injury.'' Jones, of First Avenue Devonshire, sustained severe head injuries which led to his death, multiple facial bone fractures, fractures to both wrists and sternum, and a fractured leg.

"Mr. Jones did not die of natural causes. Nobody saw what happened in the seconds before he hit the wall.'' Mr. King also said that consultant psychologist of St. Brendan's Hospital Dr.

Sarath Anandagoda stated that it was unlikely that Jones was suicidal.

"Having received all the evidence tendered, the courts verdict is that Jones met his death accidentally.'' The Jones family was represented by Ms Claire Hatcher and The Bermuda Hospital's Board was represented by Mr. John Barritt MP. Sgt. Rex Osborne presented the case.
