St. George's rest home future undecided
Bascome said yesterday.
Mr. Bascome and the St. George's Parish Council are weighing the options of replacing the existing St. George's Rest home with a brand new facility or renovating it.
"I'm awaiting a meeting with the Parish Council to discuss the matter further. Sites have been identified and I am waiting for the input of the council and others.
"It might be renovations, or it might be a new building,'' he said.
"I have met with Works and Engineering and they have given me an assessment,'' said Mr. Bascome.
He noted that the new design for the rest home would be more suitable for the residents.
"It will be a purpose design. It will be in line to better accommodate our seniors.
The century-old home was closed back in March. Deterioration and old electrical wiring were some of the factors cited for the Secretary Lane building's closure.
The home's ten residents were placed in several of the Island's other rest homes.
Mr. Bascome said: "They are adapting to their new situations.''
