Yesterday chairman of the Centre's Board of Trustees Donald Lines said he personally hoped the state-of-the-art stadium could be ready by the turn of the century.
And he also believes it could act as a magnet bringing overseas teams to Bermuda to train in the off season and for exhibition matches.
Currently the bulldozers are levelling fields next to the existing stadium for two football pitches and a cricket wicket.
Work in the future will include building a new multi-storey building for facilities including a 50-metre swimming pool and gymnasium.
