St. George's Mayor Henry Hayward yesterday confirmed that the sign -- which was given to Bermuda by Lyme Regis representatives who visited the Island recently -- was found in the vicinity of the town gates.

The sign went missing a week after it was erected.

"Someone had obviously thrown it into the bushes,'' Mr. Hayward said.

Local photographer Ann Spurling, who lives on the property adjoining the railway trail at the town entrance, stumbled upon the $2,000 gift during a walk.

Mr. Hayward said the back of the sign was slightly damaged and required repairs. It will be replaced more securely this time, he added.
