A St. George's Secondary student pleaded guilty in Magistrates' Court yesterday to stealing a Yamaha motorcycle from the Bermuda High School parking lot.

The 17-year-old stole the cycle around 11 a.m. on November 22, Prosecutor Sgt.

Ken James said. He said officers later saw Marwon Bean riding the stolen cycle on Slippery Hill in St. George's. They chased him and he abandoned it on the side of the road and made good his escape.

Police recovered the bike, worth $2,500, intact except for the licence plate having been replaced with another one.

After inquiries, Police arrested Bean and he admitted he had stolen the cycle.

The Court heard he had put his step father's licence plate on the stolen cycle.

Magistrate the Wor. Cheryl-Ann Mapp said the first thing she wanted to know was what he had been doing out of school at the time.

The Court heard Bean had other criminal matters pending.

Mrs. Mapp set sentencing for all matters for 2.15 p.m. on April 24 and ordered a social inquiry report.

But she warned him, "I can tell you what you're looking at is curtailment of your freedom so be prepared. You seem to have a lot of free time and are making a lot of bad choices in it.'' Bean's mother, who was in court, signed bail for him.
