$16,152,725 in amended spending -- most of it from the previous United Bermuda Party Government.

The Governor's Office was given an extra $143,321 for a secondment of the Deputy Governor in 1995, wages, social expenses and renovation costs.

Shadow Finance Minister Grant Gibbons asked why it took two years to bring the supplemental, but Finance Minister Eugene Cox pointed out it came from the previous Government.

Telecommunications and E-Commerce Minister Renee Webb said her department needed $43,668 to upgrade computers and $110,690 for more staff to help with the processing of cell phone licence applications and litigation.

Police were given $3,060,431 for salaries and to compensate for holidays because of errors made calculating vacation time owed.

The money was also used for communications.

Home Affairs and Public Safety Minister Paula Cox said $1.64 million was needed because of a miscalculation of holidays owed to prison staff, $223,501 in wages and $118,974 in health costs for officers.

Other expenditure for prisons took the total to $3,405,769.
