Tabloid reveals Devil preys on local surfers
Devil lurks in the ocean off Bermuda.
The awful fact has never been revealed to the outside world, least of all by the Island's tourism department.
But now America's Weekly World News has broken the silence, in a story sandwiched between "Dog gives birth to litter of kittens'' and "Space alien's visit with Ross Perot stuns President''.
"We surfed in the DEVIL'S TRIANGLE ...and met SATAN!'' screams the headline on the article this week.
In the story, Florida surfers Shelly Kemper, Carl Grissom and Tony Carillo are said to have spent a day and a night on Commissioner's Point before sailing to "a tiny island off the northwest coast of Bermuda''.
After having their surfboards tossed around "like toothpicks'' by 30-foot swells, the trio underwent "a life or death battle with the Devil''.
"Sometimes he would let us surf all the way in,'' Mr. Carillo is quoted as saying. "And sometimes, he would send us head over heels into the swirling sea.'' News "special correspondent'' Rick Tracy reports that after losing his board in a whirlpool, Mr. Grissom was rescued by a mysterious old man in a small sailboat. Soon after depositing the surfer ashore, he vanished.
"None of us will ever go back there,'' Mr. Grissom is quoted as saying.
