And the grand finale is set to be a massed bands version of Tchaikovski's 1812 Overture -- complete with the cannon fire written in by the composer, courtesy of the Bermuda Regiment's gun troop, and a massive fireworks display.

Bermuda Regiment Director of Music Major Barrett Dill promised: "It's going to be a spectacular finish -- this is the third Tattoo and it's much bigger than last year.'' A total of four top overseas bands will be joining a strong Bermuda contingent for the show.

One of the star attractions is set to be the band of the world-famous US Marine Corps from the Marine Corps Air Station, Cherry Point, North Carolina.

And the 50-strong band from the 2nd Marine Aircraft Wing comes with the stamp of Royal approval.

Included in its long list of international appearances are performances for Prince Edward and Queen Beatrix of the Netherlands.

And next month's three-day event also promises to go with a Celtic swing, thanks to the Celtic Cross Pipes and Drums from Danbury, Connecticut, and the 101-strong Atlantic Watch Pipes and Drums from the New York area.

Also taking part is the popular Canadian Lincoln and Welland Band from St.

Catherine's, Ontario -- regular visitors to the Island.

But Bermuda's home-grown military music stars, the Band and Corps of Drums of the Bermuda Regiment and the Bermuda Islands Pipe Band, will add a distinctive Island flavour to the glittering display.

And the sharp end of the Regiment will provide high drama as the attack squad -- a newcomer to the event -- simulates storming an enemy position under fire, while the Silent Drill team will go through a precision performance of skill in drill.

Outgoing Regiment commanding officer Lt. Col. David Burch said: "We anticipate a spectacular demonstration of military pageantry and skill such as Bermuda has never seen.'' Tickets went on sale throughout the Island this month from a variety of outlets, priced at $15 for adults and $5 for children.

But Major Dill said -- as a special tribute to the Island's senior citizens -- they will be allowed entry to the National Sports Centre venue on the opening night for $5.

This year's Tattoo runs from Thursday, November 13 to Saturday, November 15 from 8 p.m. to 10 p.m.
