light was yesterday placed on probation for twelve months.

Javonne Henries, 16, of East Lane, also pleaded guilty to breaking and entering St. George's Dinghy & Sports Club and the Royal Artillery Association. His probation sentence will run consecutively to the 12-month probation term he is already serving.

That term was due to end on May 31 next year.

Noting that Henries had a drug problem and had been in trouble before as a result, prosecutor Sgt. Kenrick James told Senior Magistrate the Wor. Will Francis to send Henries a stern message.

"He (Henries) has been a nuisance on this kind of offence (for some time) and I don't think he understands. Sometimes it's necessary to be tough,'' Sgt.

James said.

"He is at a tender age. If he gets the message now, he will be set for life.'' Sgt. James also noted that probation officers could not be around 24-hours a day.

He suggested putting the teen at the Co-Ed Facility.

If Henries was locked away, Sgt. James said, he would be on "cold turkey'' because he would not be able to get hold of "the stuff''.

But Mr. Francis said that would not solve the problem.

"If you force an overweight person not to eat it doesn't help them,'' he said. "They will bounce back if they aren't treated. It is the same with substance abusers. If they aren't trained, they will be back in a few days.

Training is what works.'' In sentencing Henries, Mr. Francis said he was bending over backward to give him another chance but stressed it was his last one.

Henries was also ordered to fulfil 80 hours of community service for stealing a cycle and fined $100 for driving while disqualified and $150 for driving without third party insurance.

And he was told to get treatment and counselling for drug dependency.

Henries' lawyer, Mr. Carlsen Philip, said Henries was very intelligent but he had social difficulties at home and in his social environment.
