fined a total of $1,700 when he appeared in Magistrates' Court on drugs charges yesterday.

Lamont A. Stone, of Morgan Road, pleaded guilty to possessing 29.37 grams of cannabis with intent to supply and a pack of cigarette papers intended for drug use.

Acting Senior Magistrate the Wor. John Judge imposed the fine and sentence after reading a social inquiry report on Stone.

Police prosecutor Insp. Peter Duffy earlier told the court that Stone was seen standing by a pay phone on North Shore Road in Hamilton Parish last December.

Police spotted a helmet with a plastic bag in it across the road from Stone, Insp. Duffy said. They went to search it and discovered that inside the plastic bag was another plastic bag containing 51 envelopes of cannabis and a package of cigarette papers.

Stone told Police he found the bag and placed it inside his helmet.

Insp. Duffy said the street value of the cannabis was $1,275.

Mr. Judge fined Stone $1,500 for possessing the drugs and $200 for the cigarette papers.
