Ministry of Youth, Sports and Recreation held its second annual tea and fashion show on Thursday.

Teen camps Boys to Men, We're Coming Out and The Performing Arts Camp united together to bring a burst of joy and excitement to a capacity crowd at the St.

Paul's Church Hall in Paget.

In honour of the Island's senior citizens, teens aged 11 to 15 gave a show stopping performance that left the crowd wanting for more.

And in an effort to bridge the gap between Bermuda's youth and its seniors, organisers of the event said they hoped the youngsters would learn to embrace and cherish the seniors in their community.

"We want an opportunity for the youth to interact with their elders,'' said Von-Rica Dickenson, Performing Arts Camp supervisor. "We want them to show respect and appreciation for their elders.'' The fashion show involved a variety of hip summer styles worn by the teens and the performing arts involved jazzy dance routines to upbeat music.

According to camp officials, the project was mainly run by the teens.

Ms Dickenson hailed the event as a resounding success and said she was pleased that her troop was able to give the seniors in attendance a memorable day.

"They worked very hard on this,'' she said. "They did everything. They served the refreshments and they cleaned up. We helped in some areas, but it was mainly all them.'' Seniors in attendance said they were impressed with the skill that the teens showed throughout the performance and noted that it was good to see teenage boys taking part in a positive event.

"The boys were good,'' said Ghaile Smith, who was attending the show for the first time. "You always hear that boys are shy but they were really good today.

"Praise to all the children that took part. They should be very proud of themselves. This is a very good outlet for them and it's good to see them doing something positive with their time and not wasting it away during the summer.'' Thelma Hardtman added: "I thought it was lovely, just marvellous. The dancing was excellent, but it was too short!''
