intercept a box which the Crown claims contained $30,000 worth of cocaine.

Alexander Ming, 42, is charged with importing the cocaine into Bermuda between June 21 and July 1, as well as possession of the drug, while 48-year-old Kenneth Durrant is charged with possession of cocaine.

At the time of his arrest, Ming was of no fixed abode, while Durrant was living in Ord Road in Warwick.

Customs officer William Lee Todd said that on July 5 last year he was working at the airport's courier facility when he was called to look at a cardboard box which was bound for Tony Martin at Concessions, at Suite 955, at 48 Par-La-Ville Road, Hamilton.

The label said the package had arrived from Robert Young in Atlanta, Georgia.

Mr. Todd said he and Detective Constable Barry Richards opened the box in the X-ray room and found a false bottom after emptying the box of childs' toys and drinking cups.

An X-ray revealed a circular mass underneath the cardboard of the false bottom.

Mr. Todd said: "I pushed a metal probe into the centre of the box where the bulge was and pulled out the probe, the tip had a white substance on it.'' DC Barry Richards said the box was taken to the serious crimes office at Prospect where the Government analyst cut open the bottom of the box revealing a plastic bag with a white substance contained inside another plastic bag.

He said a sample was taken in order to do a controlled delivery.

Attorney Mark Pettingill represents Durrant while Ming is represented by Marc Telemaque.

On Tuesday Crown Prosecutor Juan Wolfe told the court how 111 grams of cocaine were found in a box which had been sent to the International Bonded Couriers (IBC) warehouse at the airport on June 21 last year.
