Top magazines get Bermuda briefing
this week.
While Tourism Minister the Hon. C.V. (Jim) Woolridge and his team tour the mid-West, drumming up convention business, other officials will be wooing top magazine editors in New York.
Mr. Woolridge said last night that his tour, with tourism director Mr. Gary Phillips and managers of major hotels, was going very well.
He had learned "a very large, well-known corporation'' was about to commit itself to coming to Bermuda next year.
He said from St. Louis: "It looks very, very optimistic indeed. We think the corporations are looking to travel.'' He added that in Minneapolis he filmed a video invitation to potential convention-goers, and appeared on local TV morning news. The tour goes on to Chicago, and ends on Friday.
Tomorrow tourism public relations manager Mr. Charles Webbe and assistant marketing director Mr. Peter Smith will host a lunch with magazine editors in New York City.
The editors, from Time, Gourmet, Travel & Leisure, Good Housekeeping, Harper's Bazaar, Essence and Women's Day, will be briefed on plans for the winter season.
Mr. Webbe said the lunch, at La Reserve, Manhattan, was part of a drive to get articles on Bermuda in major magazines.
