Millennium will see new investment in Bermuda tourism, with several new hotel and resort projects coming to fruition. Below are some of the main schemes: Marriott Castle: Due to close later in the year, but renovation due to begin soon after, with first phase of $165 million, five star resort coming on line in 2001. Regent International Hotels negotiating for hotel management contract.

Club Med: Seen as a long-term project but new proposal recently made to Government, following the pulling out of Camberley.

Morgan's Point: Government pulled the plug on $300 million community/resort deal, but local developers look set to step in with scaled down golf and housing project.

Daniel's Head: Brought confidence boost when construction start was announced for next month for $11 million eco-tourist resort, featuring tents on stilts.

Belmont: Golf, hotel and homes slated for the Warwick site, with Canadian investors reportedly healing rift with Government over issues relating to the re-development. Elbow Beach withdrew as potential hotel partner and no start date yet.

Lantana: Talks are underway with overseas buyer after possible sale fell through with White Sands owner James M. Dwyer Real Estate Investment and Development.

DeVille Hotel: The $70 million city centre hotel destined for the Par-La-Ville car park was due for completion later this year but has now been put back whilst funding is secured.

Palm Reefs: Demolition work is underway, clearing the decks for a new business and leisure complex.

In addition, the Newstead hotel is currently undergoing extensive renovations to appeal to the businessman, as well as leisure traveller. The Palmetto is due to be transformed into a new townhouse and hotel complex, starting later this year. Elbow Beach has spent tens of millions on its property and both Canadian Pacific hotels are due for renovation work.
