At yesterday's Supreme Court arraignments session the man, who cannot be named for legal reasons, appeared before Chief Justice Austin Ward to be formerly charged with the assault on a young girl. The alleged offence took place between January 28 and February 1 this year.

The defendant faces an alternative charge of sexually exploiting a young person. He pleaded not guilty to both counts and was bailed to appear for trial on May 17.

Also making an appearance in yesterday's arraignment session was Kamel Wendell Trott, who was charged with causing grievous bodily harm and wounding. The offence, in which Kenneth Ralph Edwards was injured, took place on September 7.

Trott pleaded not guilty to both counts and was remanded in custody until next month's arraignments court on April 1.

And a third defendant, Andrew Daniel Smith, will be tried on April 19 after being charged with the possession of cocaine with intent to supply.

Smith, who pleaded not guilty to the charge, was stopped and searched by officers last May.

CIGARETTE THEFT COSTS MAN $75 CTS Cigarette theft costs man $75 Stealing a $41.45 carton of Kool cigarettes will cost a Hamilton Parish man $75 after he was fined by a Magistrate.

Wayne Wade Raynor, 42, of Cottage Hill Lane, told Senior Magistrate Will Francis he was hung over from having too much alcohol on February 2 when he stole the carton after buying groceries at Shelly Bay Marketplace.

Police prosecutor Phil Taylor said Raynor was watched by a staff member putting the carton down his shirt.

Raynor was asked if he had forgotten anything which he denied before turning and leaving by car.

Police traced the unemployed Raynor to the shack he shares with his brother.

He told Mr. Francis: "I was drinking the night before and I was hung over. I am very sorry. It's not even in my nature.''
