A story in Saturday's newspaper incorrectly said that Raymond Russell had been sentenced to four months in prison for assault. The man's name was Raymond Rawlins.

Two men who assaulted a man outside the Clayhouse Inn were jailed yesterday.

Shane Raynell Todd -- described as the more "aggressive'' of the two -- was given a six-month sentence.

And Raymond Russell was jailed for four months. He received a further two-month term for stealing a chain.

Magistrate the Wor. Cheryl-Ann Mapp directed that any time spent in custody be taken into account.

On Thursday, Magistrates' Court heard that the assault occurred because the victim allegedly owed money.

Todd, 19, of St. John's Road, Pembroke had pleaded guilty to assaulting Scott DeGraff in October last year, while Rawlins was convicted of assault and theft after a trial.

A third man involved in the assault has already been dealt with by the court.

Prosecutor Insp. Peter Duffy said DeGraff had been confronted as he stepped outside the bar for some fresh air.

His assailants told him he owed them money, and feeling threatened, DeGraff attempted to re-enter the premises, said Insp. Duffy.

The court heard the gang kneed DeGraff and stamped on his hands outside the Clayhouse Inn.

DeGraff called for help and security officers rushed to his aid, but when Police officers arrested him, Todd initially denied he was involved but later changed his plea.

Yesterday Ms Mapp said the attack had been unprovoked, and was the kind of incident too prevalent in the community.

She accepted Todd had been more aggressive than Rawlins, who had become involved at the "11th-hour''.
