prison -- despite warnings by his defence team that custody could kill him.

Vaucrosson was remanded in custody on Tuesday after being found guilty of stealing more than $393,000 from the estate of a client, the late Percy Ball.

Defence agents argued that the health of the 61-year-old lawyer was so poor that he might not survive until he is sentenced on January 10 next year.

Vaucrosson suffers from health problems including heart trouble and a breathing disorder which means he needs a machine to help him breathe at night in case he suffocates in his sleep.

Last night Mr. Archie Warner, who made the plea for bail, said he had not spoken to his client since he was remanded in custody on Tuesday.

And Mr. Warner declined to comment on how Vaucrosson was coping with prison on the instructions of his client and his family.

No-one was available for comment at the Prison Service headquarters last night.

The Bar Council of Bermuda is likely to discuss moves to formally disbar Vaucrosson and the future of his Hamilton law firm tonight.
